Braxton Hicks vs. Labor Contractions

There's actually a contraction that does not signify your labor. They’re called Braxton Hicks contractions.

So if you are having contractions but not sure which ones, here's a quick explanation between the difference of Braxton Hicks and Labor Contractions.

So you think you're feeling some contractions. BUT you're not sure if those are labor contractions, or are they just braxton hicks contractions. It's a tricky thing - when you get to the third trimester and of course you're looking forward to the labor and delivery (at least you're looking forward to the end part where you get to hold your baby) but you don't want to be feeling contractions too early on.


Labor contractions will sweep along the bottom of your stomach. At the beginning they feel like a period cramp and they'll get more and more painful as time goes on.

Braxton Hicks contractions feel like your stomach, especially across the top, is getting really hard.

 
 

If you're getting a lot of this type of contractions make sure to drink enough. It might be a sign of dehydration.
